Expert Paving Solutions
Great paving starts long before the first paver is laid. If the ground isn’t prepared properly, you’ll fight loose edges, sinking spots, and puddles forever. We focus on the foundation: the right excavation depth, compacted sub-base, accurate falls to drain water away, and edge restraints that lock everything in.
Once the base is solid, the rest is about fit, finish, and choosing a paving system that suits how you live.
For driveways, we recommend interlocking patterns (like herringbone) and paver thicknesses that stand up to vehicle loads. For patios and pool surrounds, we prioritise comfort underfoot, slip resistance, and heat reflection so you can walk barefoot even in summer.
Pathways get gentle gradients, neat cuts around beds, and tidy transitions at steps and thresholds. Whether you prefer concrete pavers, clay bricks, cobble/stone look, or large-format slabs, we’ll help you balance durability, maintenance, and style.
The aim is simple: paved areas that feel premium on day one and stay that way through seasons of sun, rain, and everyday use.
Common Paving Problems We Solve
Sinking or rutting – soft spots from poor sub-base or compaction.
Standing water – incorrect falls or blocked drainage.
Loose edges & migration – no kerb/edge restraint.
Weeds & ants in joints – wrong jointing sand or gaps.
Cracked or spalled pavers – unsuitable product for load/exposure.
Efflorescence & staining – moisture movement, oil leaks, or braai/food spills.
Our Approach to Paving (How We Build It Right)
We start with a site assessment: soil type, traffic loads, nearby trees, drainage paths, and how the space will be used. From there we plan the layout, levels, and pattern so water moves where it should and edges finish cleanly against lawns, walls, or drains.
On clay or reactive soils, we may include geotextile separation to stabilise the base and keep fines from pumping up.
Preparation is everything. We excavate to the correct depth, install and compact a sub-base (e.g., G5/Crusher run) in layers, and set falls toward gullies or channels to prevent pooling.
Kerbs or hidden edge restraints are installed first so the field of paving has something to lock against.
We screed a bedding layer of river sand or suitable bedding material to an even thickness and then lay pavers to the agreed pattern — herringbone for driveways (best interlock), stretcher or basket-weave for patios and paths where appropriate.
Cuts are made with a wet saw for crisp edges around corners, drains, and fixtures.
Once laid, we compact with a plate compactor, sweep in jointing sand (polymeric where needed to reduce wash-out and weeds), and compact again for a tight lock-up.
Where sealing makes sense (stain-prone driveways, entertainment areas), we’ll recommend a compatible penetrating or film-forming sealer and explain the pros and cons.
At handover we clean the site, test drainage, and share simple care tips — from seasonal sweeping and rinsing to how to lift and re-bed a small area if a localized soft spot ever appears. For repairs, we lift the affected section, re-compact the base, and relay so it matches the surrounding finish.
Benefits of Professional Paving
Stays level & drains properly – correct falls and compaction prevent puddles and dips.
Built for load – patterns and paver thickness chosen for vehicles or foot traffic.
Lower maintenance – tight joints, edge restraints, and smart sand choices reduce weeds and movement.
Curb appeal – clean lines, neat cuts, and colour/texture that elevate your outdoor spaces.
Repairable – modular systems mean damaged sections can be lifted and replaced without redoing everything.

Frequently Asked Questions
Concrete vs clay pavers — which should I choose?
Both work well. Concrete pavers offer lots of sizes, colours, and textures (including stone-look and large formats) and can be cost-effective. Clay bricks keep colour through the unit (they don’t fade the same way), handle heat well, and give a classic look. For heavy driveways, we often pick interlocking concrete pavers in a herringbone pattern; for patios or heritage looks, clay is hard to beat. We’ll help you choose based on load, style, and budget.
Will my paving sink or move over time?
Not if the base is built correctly. Sinking usually points to poor sub-base or compaction. We excavate to the right depth, compact in layers, lock edges, and choose a pattern that suits the load. If a localized area ever does settle (e.g., after a burst pipe repair), modular paving can be lifted, base corrected, and relaid to look as-new.
Do I need drainage — and what about water pooling?
Every paved area needs a plan for rain. We set falls toward channels/gullies and avoid trapping water against buildings. On big patios or long driveways, we may include channel drains or extra outlets. Correct levels during build are far easier than trying to “fix” puddles later.
Should I seal my paving?
Sealing is optional and depends on use. On driveways, a penetrating sealer helps resist oil stains. On entertainment areas, a sealer can make cleaning spills easier. Sealers need reapplication over time, and some can alter colour or sheen, so we’ll explain the trade-offs and recommend products that suit your pavers.
How is paving priced?
Price is driven by area and access, excavation depth, sub-base requirements, paver type/size/thickness, pattern complexity, and edging/drainage details. We’ll survey the site and provide a clear, itemised quote — including any options to save or upgrade, so you can decide with confidence.
